Region 7 - Central Visayas

Region 7 Philippines, Bohol, Cebu, Negros Oriental, SiquijorCentral Visayas is right in the center of the Philippines. The four provinces include Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental and Siquijor, each with its own character and treasure-trove of natural and man-made attractions.

Bohol

Bohol is one of the country's prime travel destinations due to its unique, natural features and attractions, and historical landmarks. It is the home of the world-famous Chocolate Hills, which are thousands of near perfect, cone-shaped, chocolate-brown colored hills. It is also the home of the 'tarsier', known as the world's smallest primate. Beaches for swimming, diving and whale-watching include Panglao, Balicasag and Pamilacan. Historical attractions include the Treaty of Friendship in Tagbilaran City, Ermita Ruins of Dimiao, the Punta Cruz Watch Tower, the Anibogan Massacre site, the Ubojan Marker, the guerilla bastions of Camp Verde and Behind the Clouds in Catigbian. Churches include the Baclayon Church, the oldest stone church in the Philippines built by Jesuits in 1595, the three-story Dauis, Loboc and Loon. Other natural attractions include the Hinagdanan and Batungay Caves, Logarita, Cabasi, Roxas and Badiang natural springs, Tontonan, Mag-aso, Camugao, Inambacan, Kawasan and Niluksoan waterfalls.

Cebu

Cebu City, the capital of Cebu Province, is considered 'the heart of Philippine commerce and history'. Mactan is where the famous Portuguese explorer, Ferdinand Magellan, erected a cross to claim the islands for the King of Spain, and is also where he was killed by Chief Lapu Lapu. Today, Cebu is a thriving center of air and sea transport, commerce and industry. Natural attractions in Cebu Province include dive spots in Moalboal and Badian Islands, Kawasan Falls in Badian, beaches in Malapascua and Camotes Islands, and a bird sanctuary in Olango Island. Churches include St. Catherine of Alexandria in Carcar, San Miguel Archangel Church in Argao, San Jose Church and Convent in Boljoon, and Santo Tomas de Villanueva in Danao City.

Negros Oriental

Dumaguete City, the capital of Negros Oriental, has plenty of examples of American colonial architecture, including the Provincial Capitol, City Hall and Silliman University. Other historical attractions include Looc Memorial Shrine, Fil-Am-Japanese Amity Shrine, the Dumaguete Belfry, the Church of St. Augustine of Hippo, the Pipe Organ in Bacong, and the Spanish Fountain in Valencia. Natural attractions include dive sites in Apo Island, Lag-it Beach, Camangyawon, Talisay and Tambobo Beaches. Bais Bay and Tañon Strait are home to dolphins, whales, a 400-hectare bird sanctuary and mangrove park. Waterfalls include Casaroro Falls, Inayawan Enchanted Falls and the two-toned Pulangbato Falls. Mountains include the Kanlaon Volcano and Mt. Talinis. Caves include Cayaso and Mabinay, both of which have underground rivers.

Siquijor

Siquijor is known for its mystical nature as a haven for magical practitioners and faith healers. Legend has it that the island was once underwater, thus at the time of its discovery, the Spaniards named it "Isla del Fuego" or "Island of Fire". Today, natural attractions in Siquijor include many fine white sand beaches like Salagdoong, Sangugan, Caliallan, Paliton, Tobod and Cagusuan, Liloan. Other natural attractions include the Cantabon Cave, San Juan de Capilay Lake and Daquit Diving Shoal. Churches include St. Francis of Assisi Church, San Isidro Labrador Church and Convent in Lazi, and Our Lady of Divine Providence in Maria.
